Gumley Cricket Club
Welcome to the official website of Gumley Cricket Club, Leicestershire’s quintessentially English village cricket club.
Gumley Cricket Club is a small and friendly village cricket club situated in outstanding picturesque surroundings. We play Saturday league fixtures (Northamptonshire Cricket League), Sunday friendly matches and occasional midweek cup and friendly cricket.
We welcome all ages and abilities. At Gumley CC we are determined to safeguard the atmosphere and old traditions of grass roots village cricket by fostering sportsmanship and inclusiveness. All games, whether friendly, league or cup, are treated with equal emphasis, effort and friendliness. Every Gumley cricketer is encouraged to play regardless of their skill with bat and ball and each has the opportunity to bat and bowl regularly if they so choose. One week a player can bat at number 10 or 11, the following week they can be opening!
Our cricket field sits just north of the village of Gumley on ‘Gumley Top’ overlooking the Welland valley. Cricket has been played on the present pitch for over 100 years, our unique setting allows us to play cricket with soaring buzzards overhead, grazing sheep just beyond the boundary fence and even the occasional cow sauntering onto the outfield during play! The road from Gumley to Laughton rather quaintly passes through our outfield, and during matches signs are positioned at each end to politely ask drivers to wait until the end of the over before driving through.
We hope this brief introduction has been of interest and encourages you to come along and play or visit. Everyone is welcome whether player, spectator, supporter or helper!
